The fate of Luke Skywalker has been the subject of much fevered discussion among “Star Wars” fans as the release of “The Force Awakens” looms. While Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher have been prominently featured in the promotion of the new film, Mark Hamill has been conspicuously absent.

In a new interview with Empire (via SlashFilm), Hamill remained relatively tight-lipped about Skywalker’s role in the latest chapter.

“Obviously you’re seeing him in a very different time in his life,” Hamill said of Skywalker. “There are lots of surprises in this movie. You’re going to love it.”

He went on to suggest that he spent time filming solo scenes. “It reminded me of when I was in Tunisia on the salt flats,” Hamill said. “If you could get into your own mind and shut out the crew and look at the horizon, you really felt like you were in a galaxy far, far away. I had that same wave of emotion happen to me when I was on Skellig Michael in Ireland. I wasn’t anticipating it.”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens” bows in theaters Dec. 18.

Day one for me.. I got to see the Original SW 2 days before it opened at a special preview at the San Francisco Coronet theater. It was the first time I had to wait in a Movieline around the block (hence blockbuster) my first since seeing Mary Poppins as a kid.. Ha ha..

Suprise! Your beloved childhood franchise is now owned by The Rosicrucians! Or was it always? Excited to see Kylo Renn wreak havok upon the galaxy with his ROSY CROSS saber. THEY LIVE WE SLEEP

  3. Mark says:

Luke has become his father and took over as the new Vader in the film

  4. Jamie Colley says:

The “several hints” are he’s older and there are a lot of surprises? The first is a Captain Obvious observation and the second isn’t a hint at all. Pretty much every movie has “lots of surprises” unless they post the script ahead of time. Wholly unnecessary article.

  5. Mark Hamill is awesome. That is all.

If you’re here because you love Star Wars, then let’s talk about Star Wars. Ignore the troll. It’s that easy.
I love everything from Mark Hamill on the road of promotion for this movie, from way back at the beginning until right now. He is the best ambassador, so easy going and funny and really seems to be a fan, and to understand how the fans feel. Can’t wait.

    • Jonathan Bowen says:

Exactly, everyone cares! It’s the movie event of the decade and will likely be the highest grossing film on US box office history.

  9. Jim says:

Not interesting at all. No one cares.

    • Stanley O says:

There’s always going to be some jerk to leave a turd in the punch bowl. They just can’t help themselves.

    • Alex says:

Speak for yourself. Unless you personally know everyone (in the world), there is no way you can know if they care or not.

      • patrick says:

Thats his point. You dont have to know everyone in the world to know the movie is anticipated by many. But you post that “noone cares”. I get that you dont care, thats fine. But love how someone makes a blanket statement and then you get butthurt with a rebutal.
