Watch the First Trailer for New James Bond ‘Spectre’

The world received its first glimpse of “Spectre” on Friday with the release of a teaser trailer for the 24th James Bond film on 007.com.

The teaser went live at 23:45 GMT, or at the very end of the work week in the United Kingdom. The worldwide release is set for Nov. 6.

The trailer opens with Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny giving Daniel Craig’s James Bond personal effects from Skyfall, his boyhood home — which burned to the ground at the end of the movie of the same name.

“You’ve got a secret — something you can’t tell anyone because you don’t trust anyone,” she adds.

As usual with Bond films, most of the plot details of “Spectre” have been kept under wraps. The official description: “A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.”

The name SPECTRE was featured in Ian Fleming’s Bond novels and stands for Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion. It’s a fictional global criminal syndicate and terrorist organization, led by supervillain Ernst Stavro Blofeld, and first appeared in the novel “Thunderball” and in the film “Dr. No” in 1962.

In the trailer, Bond confronts an enemy, Mr. White, played by Jesper Christensen. “You’re a kite dancing in a hurricane, Mr. Bond,” he warns.

SPECTRE is headed by Christoph Waltz’s Franz Oberhauser, who’s seen briefly in the shadows at the end of the trailer, intoning in his gravelly voice: “Welcome, James. It’s been a long time and finally, here we are.”

MGM, Sony and production company Eon also announced Friday that “Spectre” will receive an Imax release with the Nov. 6 opening, making it the second James Bond movie to be shown in the giant-screen format; 2012’s “Skyfall” saw an opening weekend domestic gross of $12.55 million in Imax theaters.

Imax did not disclose the final Imax grosses for “Skyfall,” which hit $304 million in the U.S. and $1.1 billion worldwide.

Daniel Craig returns in the lead role along with Ralph Fiennes as M, Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny and Ben Whishaw as Q. New cast include Christoph Waltz, Monica Bellucci and Lea Seydoux.

Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are producing, and Sam Mendes is directing from a script by John Logan, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.
