Josh Greenstein, president of worldwide marketing and distribution, made the announcement on Thursday. Charter will report to international marketing chief Michael Horn and oversee all international theatrical market research efforts.
Chater will also collaborate closely with John Restall, who oversees domestic market research.
“Louise has an incredible amount of knowledge and experience in the international marketplace,” Greenstein said. “Her strategic global view will be a key asset in helping us customize our campaigns throughout the world.”
Chater previously worked at Clarius Entertainment, where she oversaw strategy, acquisitions and slate development for the past two years. She also led the Walt Disney Motion Picture global research division and oversaw research on “Pirates of the Caribbean 4,” “Cars 2,” “The Muppets,” “The Help,” “Wreck-It Ralph” and “The Avengers.”
Chater was CEO of First Movies International for 10 years before working at Disney.
Sony is trailing the other five major studios in box office revenue this year. Its top performer, “Hotel Transylvania 2,” grossed $131 million domestically and $138 million at the international box office.
