Michelle Raimo Kouyate, production president of Sony Pictures Animation, is leaving the slot and taking a first-look producing deal with the studio.

Her new deal will cover animation and live action at Sony. Kouyate will also become a producer on the animated comedy “Medusa” and will oversee the transition to a yet-unnamed new head for the animation division.

Kouyate’s tenure included releases of “Hotel Transylvania,” “The Smurfs 2” and “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2.” She joined the division in 2010 after holding posts at DreamWorks Animation, Miramax Films and Paramount Pictures.

Kouyate was also an exec producer on “Silver Linings Playbook.”

Sony currently has more than 20 first-look deals including pacts with Neal Moritz, Scott Rudin and Will Smith.

The news was first reported by the Hollywood Reporter.

Exactly what I was thinking Preuser. My guess? It’s going to be awhile but sometime during 2015. I don’t blame her for talking to Al Sharpton they didn’t know what to do after all of that mess. They were scrambling and probably just got some bad PR/crisis management advice.

One thing I wanted to know from the story above, was Michelle Kouyate’s contract just up? Sounds like it if she’s going into a production pact with the studio.

Sony is too heavy with their production pacts and some old ones should be ended.

So when is Amy Pascal being shown the door ? She deserves that just for talking to Al Sharpton !
