Warner Bros. has moved sci-fi thriller “Midnight Special,” starring Michael Shannon, back four months from November 25 to March 18 in a limited release.

“Midnight Special,” which reteams Shannon with “Mud” director Jeff Nichols, also stars Adam Driver, Kirsten Dunst, Sam Shepard and Joel Edgerton. The film marks the first studio project for Nichols, who directed from his own script.

Producers are Sarah Green and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, with Glen Basner and Christos V. Konstantakopoulos as executive producers.

Shannon portrays a father protecting his uniquely gifted 8-year-old son, played by newcomer Jaeden Lieberher, while being hunted by a religious sect and a government task force.

“Midnight Special” will open against Lionsgate’s “The Divergent Series: Allegiant — Part 1,” TriStar’s “Miracles From Heaven” and Paramount’s “Monster Trucks.”

WTF is wrong with these distributers? They obviously don’t want Nichols to go big.
