Michael C. Hall is set to join the cast of Disney’s remake of “Pete’s Dragon.”

Robert Redford, Bryce Dallas Howard and Wes Bentley are also on board, with newcomer Oakes Fegley set as the title character.

David Lowery will direct from a script he wrote with Toby Halbrooks.

The story is a reinvention of the 1977 film that revolves around Pete and his best friend Elliot, who happens to be a dragon. The first pic was a musical, but sources say this will be a straight narrative. The movie will be live action, with CGI used to bring the dragon to life.

Jim Whitaker is producing.

Hall was last seen in the Sundance pic “Cold in July.” He is repped by UTA and Hamilton Hodell.

Looks like they are going in a much different direction with the remake. I cherished the original (imperfections and all) and am fearful of how they will treat the property today. Lowered expectations are probably in order.

Love your acting but wish they you would cone back as Dexter. We all miss this show.

  3. Please don’t make Hall the staple bad guy. The man has so much more to offer as an actor. Hollywood, please be a little more imaginative.

  4. Scott says:

Pete’s Dragon was the last original story of Walt Disney’s the studio produced. Sadly, don bluth nearly ruined it with his bad taste.

I hope Helen Reddy plays the dragon in this remake.

  5. Ravzie says:

Michael sure doesn’t know how to take a break and relax! I wonder if he will be the voice of the dragon?

    • Amy says:

I sure hope not. Elliott doesn’t speak in the original movie. I love that movie. The songs are wonderful. Gosh I am terrified of a remake!

This has an awfully good cast for a remake of a mediocre 1970’s Disney film–hopefully that’s a good sign.
