Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson have come on board to produce Paramount’s movie about the Volkswagen clean diesel scandal.

The duo are producing through their Appian Way banner. There are no acting or directing attachments yet.

Paramount has acquired movie rights to Jack Ewing’s upcoming book, which will detail the scandal in which the company placed illegal software in their clean diesel cars that could tell when a car was being tested for fuel emissions and would turn on the emissions control to cheat the test and meet EPA standards. During normal driving conditions, emission control software was shut off  — resulting in as much as 40 times more pollution than allowed by law.

Volkswagen is currently facing up to $18 billion in fines from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The scandal has rocked the automotive company, with Volkswagen’s stock plunging, and called into question the future of the German automotive industry. The scandal has also damaged VW’s reputation and led to the resignation of CEO Martin Winterkorn.

DiCaprio’s producing credits include “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Runner Runner” and “Out of the Furnace.” He will be seen next in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s drama “The Revenant.”

Publishing rights for the book proposal sold for mid-six figures to Norton. Liz Raposo at Paramount Pictures bought the movie rights.

Shari Smiley of Gotham Group represented Jack Ewing on the sale of the feature rights.

I know this website provides quality depending content and other data,

DiCaprio also produced the documentary Cowspiracy. I highly recommend everyone watch it.

  4. Didn’t this story come out, like, 12 days ago? How is there already a book about it? Oh yea Al Bore and his #ClimateChange Liars cooked it up so they could push more #Climate_Change_Bull$hit. that they can’t prove.

    • Sam Katz says:

Reading is fundamental — it said “book proposal.” By the way, climate change has been proven a billion times over — 18 billion times, just like the VW fine.

      • Bobguu says:

You are partially right. Climate change is happening, any climatologist worth their sh!t can only estimate at most around 1% human factor. Politics getting involved with research is the worst thing to.happen to modern science. An experiment is automatically invalid when the point of research is to find evidence to back a claim.

Everyone demonizes big oil, news flash energy sources will always be big business. When a market goes stale and won’t see further expansion, what happens next? Innovation and new technology to spur more income and investment. Anyone who hasn’t realized green technology is the next “big oil” influencing government for their gain is insane.

  5. Ed West says:

It’s always easy to jump on a bandwagon if you have limited grasp of facts- Volkswagen (people’s car) was a generic concept predating Hitler by at least 15 years. Volkswagen as the world knows it was actually establish by The British occupation to establish a non military industry! If you drive your Toyota Prius , do you ever think that they started out in the auto industry by building trucks for the Imperial Japanese Army; or that Henry Fords writings on anti Semitic writing inspired Hitler and Himmler while your cruising in your Escort?

  6. spike says:

the so-so actor poses arrogantly, perhaps thinking he’s the King of Hollywood? think again, talent-challenged putz

  7. Tim tsai says:

    I want to see, ,

  8. JE Vizzusi says:

I suppose American’s should consider the roots autounion and Volkswagen. The initial funding, the promotion and endorsements from one Adolf Hitler. His first big campaign to convince every german they could own a good car. Now they are lying about their diesel engines and the polution. And even their CEO stating We Screwed Up! All companies have a DNA, Volkswagen has never really owed up to its past. Funny that all those kool superbeatles ended up as taxis in third world countries.
