Before coming to WIF, Schaffer spent 14 years at Outfest as director of programming and deputy director before being appointed executive director in 2009. During her tenure at Outfest, she launched the Outfest UCLA Legacy Project, the Fusion LGBT People of Color Film Festival and OutSet, the Young Filmmakers Project from the Los Angeles LGBT Center and Outfest.
“Kirsten’s exceptional and wide-ranging skills in leadership and management, fundraising and financial oversight, strategic partner relationships and programming make her the ideal person to take Women in Film to the next level, as we build and refine our programs, identifying lever points to stop women from falling out of sustainable Hollywood Industry careers,” Schulman said.
The appointment comes as WIF implements a broader reorganization designed to better advocate for women in the media industries. WIF is also focusing on welcoming men to join the organization’s mission to put an end to gender disparity in media.
