TEL AVIV – Keshet International, the global distribution and production arm of Israeli media powerhouse Keshet, announced Thursday that its establishing a European Drama Initiative to fund three to four new TV shows per year.

The announcement, which follows last year’s successful co-production deal with Keshet U.K. and Atlantique Productions for “Crater Lake” — an eight-episode series for Keshet U.K. created by Ron Leshem — will further Keshet’s march into the original scripted programming scene in Europe.

Keshet has made a name for itself globally by exporting several hit Israeli formats, including “Prisoners of War,” the predecessor of “Homeland,” “Your Family or Mine” and “Allegiance.” The new European drama initiative will be jointly led by Keshet’s scripted executive producer and head of co-productions Sara Johnson and head of business development and acquisitions Sebastian Burkhardt.

“We are confident we have all the ingredients to build a robust co-production vision in Europe,” Burkhardt said in a statement.
