Jessica Chastain has closed a deal to join Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron in Universal’s “The Huntsman.”

Emily Blunt is also set to join the cast. Cedric Nicolas-Troyan is directing the pic, with Joe Roth producing and Palak Patel exec producing.

Plot details are vague beyond that the film reveals how the fates of two characters, the Huntsman Eric (Hemsworth) and Ravenna, intersected before they met Snow White. Details on Chastain’s character are also vague.

Frank Darabont, who was previously attached to direct before falling off, wrote the current draft of the screenplay, with earlier drafts by Craig Mazin and Evan Spiliotopoulos.

The pic is set to bow on April 22, 2016. Universal’s vice president of production Maradith Frenkel and creative executive Chloe Yellin will oversee the project for the studio.

Chastain ended 2014 with films that ranged from big-budget tentpoles like “Interstellar” to prestige pics like “A Most Violent Year” and “Miss Julie.” The Oscar-nominated actress looks to be retaining such a balance for her next round of films.

She can be seen next in Guillermo del Toro’s “Crimson Peak,” which bows in October, and follows that up with Ridley Scott’s “The Martian,” debuting in November.

She is repped by CAA, Mosaic and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush & Kaller.

  1. How can Universal shun the first woman to win the French equivalent to an “Oscar?” Big mistake – wishing no ill will to an otherwise stellar cast, I will not watch a Snow White sequel with THE Snow White.

  2. Huntsflop says:

    LOL. Good luck with that…..

  3. Yvette says:

Not worth watching. If anything, there should have been a second Snow White, picking up where the last one left off. Who cares which actor the public liked better? It’s not worth it to me.

    • Cindylover1969 says:

And where was the story supposed to go? At least with the prequel we’ll get more of Charlize Theron eating the scenery and no Kristen Stewart moroseness. Plus, Jessica.

  4. Ace says:

Awesome cast full of amazing women. The rest of the town should take heed.

  5. kate says:

Now I might actually watch this pic. Love Jessica Chastain! She’s gorgeous and talented.
