Filmmaker Jay Roach is set to deliver the commencement address at the USC School of Cinematic Arts graduation on May 15 at the Shrine Auditorium. In addition, writer-producer Melissa Rosenberg will receive the Mary Pickford Alumni Award.
Roach graduated USC with a masters in film production while Rosenberg earned her masters in the Peter Stark Producing Program.
Dean Elizabeth M. Daley said in a statement, “We are so pleased that Jay Roach and Melissa Rosenberg, two of our most inspiring alumni, will join us for our graduation ceremony. Jay brings a unique approach to his work in comedy and narrative filmmaking and in both areas he has been a stellar role model for our students. Melissa Rosenberg is also someone they admire greatly, whose work as a writer and producer crosses genres, demographics and even distribution channels. They are both having the kinds of careers our students want to emulate.”
Roach is currently working on “Trumbo,” opening in November and starring Bryan Cranston. Rosenberg, who wrote all five “Twilight” movies, is also the creator and showrunner of Marvel/Netflix series “AKA Jessica Jones,” to be released in late 2015.
