After his break-out role in Bravo’s “Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce,” Patrick Heusinger is now in talks to join Tom Cruise in Paramount and Skydance’s sequel to “Jack Reacher” as the villain.

Cobie Smulders, Aldis Hodge and Danika Yarosh are also on board to join the cast with Ed Zwick directing.

Zwick and and Marshall Herskovitz wrote the most recent draft of the script after Richard Wenk penned the original draft.

Paramount grossed $218 million worldwide from 2012’s “Jack Reacher,” directed by Christopher McQuarrie from his own script based on the Lee Child series of novels. The sequel will be based on Child’s “Never Go Back,” in which Reacher travels from South Dakota to the Virginia headquarters of the U.S. Army Military Police Corps and finds that his new commanding officer has been arrested.

Details surrounding Hodge’s role are under wraps at this time, other than the character being described as “the hunter.”

Cruise and Don Granger are producing.

Besides his Bravo credit, Heusinger is a part of the series “Quantum Break,” which blurs the line between television and gaming.

His other past film credits include “A Beautiful Now,” “Black Swan” and “Frances Ha.” He is repped by Gersh and Industry Entertainment.

Tom Cruise 5’7…Jai Courtney 6’1…did not lose anything there in their abilities to spar…everything worked out just fine…even with the height difference. Story was excellent…Loved Rosamund Pike…great acting on all fronts.

  2. mary1connealy says:

I wanted someone more Reacher’s size too, but we all know Tom Cruise can play a tough guy and I loved the movie. I’m glad Reacher 2 is coming!

  3. redsabreanakin says:

Im really looking forward to this. The books are fantastic (read them all) and the movie was great. I dont care about the size issue, he got down Reachers mannerisms, personality and logic down perfect. The one thing i didnt like? Everyone complains about the size issue, they should be complaining about the car chase in the movie. its well documented Reacher is not a good driver; but thats not enough to keep me from enjoying the movie.

Red here gets it. You can’t compare movie casting to the books, just enjoy the flick (which was very good). I did not think much about the car chase but that is probably the best point I have heard made about the movie.
Nuschler12 below sounds like he just wants to complain. Why waste time if you are not even going to see the movie?

  4. Miss Taken says:

I don’t know. Somehow the guy from GIRLFRIEND’S GUIDE TO DIVORCE, FRANCES HA, BLACK SWAN, and A BEAUTIFUL NOW, doesn’t sound like someone casting executives would pick as the go-to-guy for the villain role in a JACK REACHER film. On the plus side, he does have the look of someone you might expect to be the hunter from a Lee Child’s novel.

    • nuschler12 says:

As long as diminutive 5’5” Tom Cruise is picked to play 6’5” 240# Jack NMN Reacher these movies will be a farce. The first movie did poorly…no one will go to this one either. Why Lee Child sticks with Cruise is beyond me! Reacher is more Daniel Craig than miniature Cruise.

      • dave says:

its a shame they didnt use LOTR technology and make it seem like cruise was 6ft5″ to appease the book fans lol. but this will do a lot better than the first. a lot of people stayed away because A) they didnt like the casting. or B) they had no idea who jack reacher was.. the character isnt as well known outside the US.

the movie did really well in the home movie market and has got generally good reviews so theres now a lot more interest in the franchise. the hardcore fans wont be swayed of course but people who have never read the books now know what to expect. i hope they stick to the same formula and keep it as gritty as the first. i liked the fact he wasnt a typical good guy. ill definitely be going to the cinema to watch it this time around.
