Rialto Pictures has bought U.S. and Canadian theatrical rights to “Ingrid Bergman — In Her Own Words” from Paris-based Pretty Pictures.
The documentary premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where it received the L’Oeil d’Or (Golden Eye) for best documentary. In honor of the centennial of her birth, Bergman’s face was used on the Cannes Festival’s official poster.
The film about the three-time Oscar winner has also been selected for the upcoming New York Film Festival. It will open at New York’s Lincoln Plaza Cinemas on Nov. 13 and L.A.’s Nuart.
In 2011, Bergman’s daughter Isabella Rossellini encouraged Swedish director Stig Björkman to make the documentary, which includes interviews with Bergman’s four children (Isabella Rossellini, Ingrid Rossellini, Roberto Rossellini and Pia Lindström) as well as Fiorella Mariani, Liv Ullmann, Sigourney Weaver and Jeanine Basinger.
Björkman’s credits include “But Film Is My Mistress” and “Tranceformer — A Portrait of Lars von Trier.”
