Dhoni is currently in Australia with the Indian cricket team, preparing to defend the cricket World Cup title (in the game’s quickfire 50-over format) that it won in India in 2011.
Neeraj Pandey, whose terrorism action drama “Baby,” starring Akshay Kumar, is due for release on January 23, will direct. Sushant Singh Rajput, whose thriller “Detective Byomkesh Bakshy” is out on April 3, will play Dhoni.
Inspired Entertainment is an associate company of Rhiti Sports that holds the exclusive rights to Dhoni’s story.
“Dhoni’s story is such a remarkable story and is an inspiration not only to the country’s youth, but to the larger cricketing fraternity across the world. It’s a massive film for us, and certainly one of the biggest films of 2015. M.S. Dhoni is the most successful cricket captain of India, but not many know how M.S. Dhoni is in real life,” said Vijay Singh, CEO of Fox Star Studios.
FSS will release the film worldwide on October 22.
