Disneyland Paris will remain closed today in the wake of the terrorist attack that killed over 120 people and wounded over 200 in Paris on Nov. 13.

Located in Marne-la-Vallee, a Eastern suburb near Paris, Disneyland Paris claimed it was closing for security reasons and to show some solidarity.

“Considering the gravity of the events that occurred in France and by solidarity for the French government and the victims of these hideous attacks, Disneyland Paris has decided to not open on November 14,” said the park in an official statement. “Our prayers go out to all those who were hurt by these horrific events.” Disneyland Paris will reimburse all the tickets purchased.

Reacting to the unprecedented attacks, Francois Hollande declared last night that the country had been placed under a state of emergency and passed several measures, including the shutting down of borders and the mobilization of all police and military forces on the ground to track down terrorists all across France. So far eight attackers are dead — seven of them blew themselves up — and police say there could be more terrorists on the run and more attacks in the days to come.

Schools and museums are also closed today.

Is it necessary to heighten the drama of this terrible event by posting a photo of armed guards for an article about Paris Disneyland closing? I doubt that there are armed guards outside of Disneyland. It just plays into the terrorists hands of spreading fear by using an out-of-context image like this. I think it’s despicable and bad journalism.

There are armed guards outside of Disneyland. There usually are. There are just more now.

      • Reality is not necessary?

My point is that this photo is unnecessarily emotional and probably not an actual photo of the guards at Disneyland Paris. I’d have no issue with it if it were directly associated with the article.

I have been to Disneyland Paris and there are guards like this in plain view outside the park. It’s common in Paris to see military/police guards at touristic destinations.

And at Disneyland California you would be surprised if you really saw the security that they have, and I’m not talking about the bag inspections at the entrance… :)

      • michael saul says:

I’ve never been to Disneyland Paris but I’ve never seen armed personnel outside of a Disney resort. Even if there are – I doubt this is a photograph of them.
