Ryan Reynolds’ superhero slump may be over. Not only had the actor been trying to shed the disappointment of “The Green Lantern” since 2011, Reynolds had also been eager to get his X-Men spinoff, “Deadpool” into theaters for over a decade. But for just a few minutes on Saturday night, the actor, now 38, was able to put the past behind him.

The first trailer for “Deadpool,” his R-rated superhero pic, received a long standing ovation at Comic-Con, along with “One more time!” chants from the buzzing fans in Hall H. Reynolds and director Tim Miller, looking genuinely stunned, gave each other high fives as they took their seats to watch it again.

“For one I think it’s an absolute miracle that a studio let us make ‘Deadpool’ let alone a Rated-R ‘Deadpool,'” Reynolds said of Fox’s willingness to greenlight the film.

The “Deadpool” trailer, set to premiere this week online, featured explosive action sequences, several f-bombs, and even a sex scene.

Joining him onstage were co-stars T.J. Miller, Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, Ed Skrein and Gina Carano.

“(It’s) the most faithful adaptation of a comic book to a movie I’ve ever seen,” Reynolds said of the film, which opens Feb. 12, 2016. “I’ve only ever done one other proper, actually not proper, superhero movie,” he said, throwing shade on “The Green Lantern,” which stumbled at the box office.

Later in the evening, Reynolds stood next to Fox’s other Marvel characters, The X-Men and Fantastic Four, onstage for a mega photo op that looked like Reynolds, finally, belonged in the superhero family.

Hey, he rocked as The Green Lantern!

  2. Ben Flagg says:

This story had me until the author decided to use what must be the single most annoying, over-used, stupid-sounding phrase of the past decade :throwing shade. Seriously, be better than that. Buzz phrases like that are for ESPN, and for people who can’t write.

  3. laura says:

What does that mean about Ryan Reynolds disappointment over Green lanern? I thought he was great. I’ve seen the movie with him and wife Blake Lively 3 times!

  4. patrik says:

    x-woman? -L. Vonn(good yellow look)

  5. kelly says:

Deadpool and Suicide Squad are only as good as the director and actors who play the parts. Ryan will do an amazing job as Deadpool; he is the closest one to being Wade Wilson and sounds acts so much like him in real life!

If it wasn’t for Jared Leto, cast of Suicide Squad and Ryan Reynolds …comic book movies would be really really annoying money makers with no real authentic comic book roots!

  6. Magic says:

Ryan Reynolds can’t act. That’s why his movies flop.

  7. Kelly says:

The only TERRIBLE PART ABOUT THIS MOVIE is putting Gina a UFC athlete in it.

Gina does not deserve to be in a globally liked loved comic book movie when other unknown or well known actresses have paid their dues in the business. Ive never seen her at comic con Ive never seen her have a comment about comic books once.

Gina is the worst actress and worst part about this project. Just because your daddy is your manager and you have big agent hollywood connections doesn’t mean you can be in a comic book movie fans love when you’ve never even loved Deadpool the comics.

  8. The article says the trailer will be released online this week. I’ll post the statement: The “Deadpool” trailer, set to premiere this week online, featured explosive action sequences, several f-bombs, and even a sex scene.

  9. Ted says:

He was born to play Wally West/Flash on the big screen.

    • tedyouradick says:

Why are you commenting on comic book movies when your dialogue has always been nothing like us comic book people

  10. Trailer says:

    Where’s the trailer??!

    • Ted says:

Idiot, not all of the premiere trailers from Comic-con magically appear the second they screen in hall H. We had to wait over six months for the Ultron trailer to go public.

  11. Bill B. says:

I’ve little interest in this, but he’s a nice guy and an appealing performer, so I hope this succeeds just for his sake. Self/Less sounded interesting to me, but the reviews have been poor and the box office even worse.

  12. undead says:

ryan reynold’s eyes are too close together.

  13. Alex says:

An R-Rated super hero flick for grownups…may work

    • JoeR says:

Not the first. DEC did it first with V FOR VENDETTA and WATCHMEN were R-Rated (But it is the unrated Ulrimate Cut version of WATCHMEN that actually works,) Oh, and by the way, it’s not The Green Lantern…it’s just Green Lantern. There has never been a “The” in the name…not in the comics, not in the movie. Someone keeps confusing it with “The Batman.”(.

  14. Kelly Palicki says:

I wasn’t aware this man was experiencing a ‘slump’. “Safe House” was an excellent movie, and “The Captive” with all it’s bad reviews was riveting. “The Green Lantern” wasn’t a great movie, but in the grand scheme of things, ie, a career, I would say it was a blimp on the screen.

    • schmit1993 says:

Box office wise, Reynolds lead movies have bombed, hard
      Change-Up, Green Lantern, Turbo, R.I.P.D,
Technically, Safe House is a Denzel movie, but that’s a technicality.

  15. Does “Deadpool” have a rubber fetish? Looks like the gimp from “Pulp Fiction”.

  16. Wait, Ryan Reynolds! Don’t forget your role in Blade Tri–*pukes*

  17. PETER says:

Everything Ryan Reynolds does is good. Check Amityville Horror and Blade and Safe House with Denzel. And that new one that takes place in the South. And Reynolds is also a super nice guy in person.

    • Jesse says:

yeah, he’s pretty much already played Deadpool in the Blade movies. thats why i was so hyped for this, i KNEW he’d knock it out of the park

  18. RS says:

Glad he finally got his Deadpool movie, which was long overdue. I much prefer him as Deadpool.

  19. Matt says:

Please don’t say “throw shade”. You’re adults and members of a respected media outlet.

The New York Times reporting that Israel is all up in Palestine’s business but Egypt says they’re just frontin

    • Mason says:

It’s funny, but you have to remember that this is a publication reporting on Hollywood news, not world events. I always think of these as compared to Danny DeVito’s Hush-Hush magazine in L.A. Confidential. No, they’re not reporting on celebrity infidelities entirely, but you’re not going to get a whole lot of substance here.

    • Jay says:

I’m dying here… this is gold!

  20. adam says:

i actually liked the green lantern film..
