Remstar Group has launched a production-financing venture with Clark Peterson, a producer on “Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet” with Salma Hayek.
The new entity, Remstar Studios, will co-finance, develop and produce independent feature films and TV projects with offices in Los Angeles and Montreal. Peterson, a partner in the venture, will manage the day-to-day operations and work with Remstar Group CEO Maxime Remillard.
The company will focus on star-driven projects with budgets up to $10 million while the TV side will target series with international financing components.
Peterson’s credits include “Monster” with Charlize Theron and “Rampart” with Woody Harrelson. He also exec produced the pilot for CBS’ “Taxi-22,” based on the French Canadian series of the same name.
Remstar has handled the Canadian distribution of “Dallas Buyers Club,” “Don Jon” and “The Wrestler.” Its upcoming slate includes “Good Kill” and “Dark Places.” Remillard financed and produced “Polytechnique,” directed by Denis Villeneuve.
Remstar owns French-language broadcast network V, which operates primarily in Quebec, and French-language specialty channels MusiquePlus and Musimax.
