Universal Pictures has optioned “Chrononauts,” the time-traveling adventure comicbook series from Mark Millar and Sean Gordon Murphy, following Image Comics releasing it this week.

Chris Morgan will produce under his Chris Morgan Productions banner. Millar and Murphy will executive produce.

This story follows a scientific duo who become the first to travel back in time.

Vice president Ainsley Davies will oversee development for Chris Morgan Productions. Universal’s director of development Jay Polidoro will oversee the project for the studio.

Millar created some of Marvel’s biggest-selling titles of the last decade, including “Civil War,” the basis for the upcoming “Captain America: Civil War” movie, before leaving to form Millarworld, where his creator-owned titles have been adapted into films for Universal and others, including “Wanted,” his first collaboration with Chris Morgan, “Kick-Ass” and “Kingsman: The Secret Service.”

Murphy is best known for his New York Times best-selling comic “Punk Rock Jesus” and most recently collaborated with Christopher Nolan on a short “Interstellar” comic for Wired Magazine.

The deal was negotiated by Paradigm and Law Offices of Harris M. Miller II, P.C. Deadline Hollywood first reported the news.

  1. I just don’t understand…Universal can make this and not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 Scorpion King movies – most of them straight to dvd, but they can’t make a Xena movie with Lucy Lawless? Not even straight to dvd? They have the rights to it. Universal is so behind the game at this point with iconic action movies. It’s so frustrating to read about them doing another movie catered to, and about, dudes.
I think they distributed ONE female action movie last year, ‘Lucy.’ Oh, the irony. Please, for the love, let another studio or network make Xena. The fanbase is here. The 20th ANNUAL Xena Con sold out all of seat packages this year and Lucy’s photo opps sold out 3 times, they kept having to add more. Renee’s photo opps sold out. Their duo photo opps sold out. The 10 VIP tix went for $35k between the winners (inlcuding their seat pckg cost). There’s fanpages all across social media from around the world. I can only hope that one of them reads this.
