Channing Tatum Closes 'Gambit' Deal

Channing Tatum has closed a deal to star in “Gambit” for 20th Century Fox, a source close to project confirmed.

News of Tatum’s official involvement in the “X-Men” spinoff lays to rest the rumors that the project was falling apart.

Tatum has been tied to the superhero pic for some time as producer and star. He even appeared at Fox’s Comic-Con panel with the cast of “X-Men.” Details on the extent of Tatum’s involvement in future “X-Men” projects are still under wraps.

“Gambit” is slated for an October 2016 release.

“Rise of the Planet of the Apes” helmer Rupert Wyatt will direct a script by Josh Zetumer, who drew from a treatment written by “Gambit” co-creator Chris Claremont.

In addition to Tatum, Reid Carolin, Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg will produce.

Tatum is repped by UTA.

The news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Well Fox, hope you are looking forward to your very own Green Lantern level flop. Have you looked at his box office takes? Other than 21 Jump Street, men (your target demo) avoid him like the plague. What was the name of that other successful non-female targeted move he made? Oh that’s right it doesn’t exist. Shame they didn’t pay attention to the mass outpouring of relief that came when the rumor of him being out was started. It wasn’t Jeath Ledger can’t play Joker comments, but the flat out we don’t want to see any movie with him in it comments.

Channing Tatum will surely ruin the character. Gambit needs to be played by an actor with passion and substance, not “dead-face” Channing. He can’t act his way out of a paper bag. The body type is completely wrong, Gambit is a tall, lean, lithe human being, not beefy and stocky and clumsy. there’s no way Tatum will do this character justice on screen.
He has gotten by on his looks alone in Hollywood, and lacks any real acting chops. Can anyone please tell me what Channing Tatum performance moved them emotionally at all? He offers wooden performances, and a dead expression in every role he plays. he might be good for a juvenile comedy role, but Gambit deserves far better than him. I dare say, based on looks alone, Taylor Kitsch was the better choice for the role. Get him some acting lessons and see if his passion will match the character.

this is awful news. I was excited when he was out, hoping they would find a real actor to tackle the most interesting mutant. they f’d up with wooden soldier Taylor Kitsch and now they get a beefy tabloid celebrity. I have no enthusiasm for his stunt piece. Booo Hollywood!
