‘Minions’ Crosses $500 Million Mark at Foreign Box Office

Minions” has crossed the $500 million mark at the international box office, Universal Pictures announced Monday.

The comedy opened in first place in 55 territories, setting the record in 29 markets, including Brazil, France, Mexico, Russia and the U.K., for biggest opening weekend of all time for an animated movie.

“Minions” is also Universal’s highest-grossing debut ever in seven territories and became the top launch of any film in Russia and Venezuela. Universal noted that Illumination Entertainment’s creative team consists of 29 nationalities.

“Minions” has hauled $261.6 million in the U.S. after three weekends.
