Miramax and Broad Green Pictures announced that Billy Bob Thornton will reprise his role as Willie Soke in “Bad Santa 2.”

Geyer Kosinski will produce. Miramax will partner with Broad Green Pictures to co-finance and co-produce. Broad Green will distribute in the U.S. during the 2016 holiday season.

Sierra/Affinity will handle foreign sales with sales starting at the upcoming American Film Market.

“We’ve been waiting far too long to see Billy Bob’s Willie Soke mess with the holiday season in his own unique way,” said Zanne Devine of Miramax.

David Thwaites will oversee the project for Miramax and Victor Moyers for Broad Green Pictures. Principal photography will commence in January in Montreal.

The 2003 original grossed $60 million domestically on a budget of $23 million. Thornton was seen on season one of FX’s “Fargo” and appears in Warner Bros.’ current big screen film “Our Brand is Crisis.”

  2. David Grant says:

While I love Bad Santa, I am not sure this is a good idea. Sequels more often than not are terrible and it would be better to make more black comedies similar to Bad Santa. If it turns out to be as good I will probably see it. It is part of my Christmas film festival every year!!!!

Oh, my goodness! Best movie ever. I hope to see Lauren Graham, too!

  5. Jon says:

Bad Santa was possibly the most perfect movie ever made. It remained true to itself even with it’s own form of “happy ending.” Every line memorable. Hoping the reason for the long time for a sequel was to make sure it could possibly mirror it’s magnificent beginnings. If not, I’m completely fine watching the uncut version (all others need burned) 4 to 6 times a year and loving it. It’s a classic.

  6. Steve says:

Love to know how the story line is going to work because Bad Santa learned his lessons in the first movie and kind of turned good right at the end of the movie. Hard to see how they can make a new story again. No Dwarf and Thurman Merman is now a adult?

  7. While it would be kind of cool to see him back in this role what could the story possibly be about? He’s back to his old tricks with a new Midget? Also, they totally have to bring Thurman Merman back.

  8. Jedi77 says:

Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please do it right!!!

The original is a classic cuz’ it’s oncenventional without ever being over the top. It’s grounded in realism. Don’t make this one “more” just because you can. More of the same is the right recipe some times.

    Thurman Mermen PLZ

  10. Christmas movies are the worst genre & they keep pumping them out every year. Bad Santa is one of the few exceptions – it is actually entertaining.
