The American Film Market has added a China conference to its lineup for the upcoming market on Nov. 6.
The event, which will kick off AFM’s conference series, will include leaders from China’s film industry and explore how producing, marketing and distributing in China differ from those practices in the West. The Chinese box office is expected to surpass the U.S. box office within five years.
AFM is also launching a festival conference on Nov. 9 with a discussion focused on how to work with and position festivals in a film’s production and marketing strategy. The conference series will also include events on finance, pitching and production and distribution.
AFM will also hold a Carousel Cocktails event for four nights on the Santa Monica Pier, starting on Nov. 7.
The eight-day market will open Nov. 4 for its 36th year. Last year’s event drew 8,000 participants from more than 80 countries with 700 screenings. The AFM is produced by the Independent Film and Television Alliance.
