Strand Releasing has acquired U.S. rights to Guillaume Nicloux’s drama “Valley of Love,” which competed at Cannes.
Pic toplines French icons Gerard Depardieu and Isabelle Huppert playing two movie stars and estranged lovers who reunite in Death Valley, Calif., after receiving a mysterious letter from their dead son. As their son promises that he’ll appear to them in one of the five sites of the Valley, the pair embarks on a spiritual journey across the desert which brings them closer to one another.
“I was impressed by ‘Valley of Love’ and the performances by Depardieu and Huppert are extremely moving,” said Strand Releasing’s Marcus Hu.
Strand Releasing plans to screen the film at various key festivals in the U.S. prior to its theatrical release, which the company expects to be in the spring.
“Valley of Love” is produced by Sylvie Pialat’s les Films du Worso and Jean-Baptiste Dupont and Cyril Colbeau-Justin’s LGM.
The deal was done between Jon Gerrans, Strand Releasing’s co-founder and Camille Neel, head of international sales at Le Pacte.
