Reflecting the growing importance of live events content Italo pubcaster Rai’s sales arm Rai Com has inked a slew of deals on its All’Opera series which brings top live Italian opera productions to theatrical audiences around the world.
All’Opera brings worldwide audiences Italian opera performances from famous theaters including La Scala in Milan, the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, the Teatro Regio in Turin, La Fenice in Venice, and the Arena in Verona. The 2015/16 season offers works including Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville” and “La Cenerentola,” Puccini’s “The Girl of the West,” Verdi’s “La Traviata” (pictured) and “Joan of Arc” and Donizetti’s “La Favorita.”
The live performances are shot with seven HD cameras that allow the viewers to view the larger stage as well as minute detail. The project is touted as helping exhibitors to attract new audiences and lower the threshold for non-classical music audiences to experience top-notch opera.
“Mipcom is always a great opportunity to close pending deals and hopefully generate others,” enthused Rai Com CEO Luigi De Siervo in a statement. “2015 so far proved that there are international theatrical audiences for one of the highest expression of Italian art, and we are proud to bring great opera productions to a far bigger public than they could have in opera houses.”
