France’s Lionel Uzan, a former Summit board member and architect of the build of the SND-M6 Group in France, is joining Pascal Breton’s TV production-distribution house, the Paris and L.A.-based Federation Entertainment Group, in the newly created position of its managing director.
Reporting to Breton, and a partner in Federation Ent.,Uzan, the former acquisitions, productions and intl. distribution director at the SND-M6 Group, the movie label of French broadcaster M6, takes up a central position overseeing the studio’s full production and distribution activities for France, Europe and the U.S.
Uzan’s appointment becomes effective June 1 at Federation Ent. a company which leapt to fame in August when it was commissioned to produce Netflix’s first French series “Marseille.” Federation Ent. Group officially launched in September with Ashley Stern heading up the L.A. office, and writer-director Eric Rochant on board to direct Canal Plus’ original series “The Bureau,” an espionage thriller starring Mathieu Kassovitz (“Amelie,2 “Munich”), which bowed April 27 on the giant Gallic pay TV operator.
Uzan has already steered growth at a company. At SND-M6 Group, he was instrumental in SND tak¡ng a minority stake in Summit, sold to Lionsgate upon its merger with Summit, released the “Twilight” saga in France, as well as “Looper” and “Source Code,” “Prisoners,” “Hurt Locker,” ”Yves Saint Laurent.” SND has figured in the top five French indie distributors the last five years, ranking second last year thanks to its mix of Summit titles, local comedies (such as sleeper “Fiston”) and animation, such as “Asterix: the Land of the Gods,” an M6 production. Abroad, SND saw fulsome sales on a series of titles, including, more recently, “Yves Saint Laurent,” “La Famille Belier” and now Jean Reno-starrer “The Squad.”
“I am thrilled and proud to have Lionel, one of France’s most respected professionals, as a part of the Federation team. He will serve as an integral member of Federation’s management team in helping develop Federation Entertainment’s ever-growing portfolio of premium primetime series for both Europe and the U.S. from our studio’s prestigious roster of producers,” said Breton.
“Pascal Breton and his team have rapidly built Federation Entertainment Group into an extraordinary global television leader, boasting an unparalleled lineup of respected producers, showrunners and creative talent,” Uzan added.
