Scandinavian outfit LevelK has acquired international sales for Grant Scicluna’s directorial debut “Downriver” ahead of its world premiere at Toronto in the Discovery section.
“Downriver” tells the tale of a young man who has just been released from prison after purging a sentence for drowning a little boy and sets off to uncover the truth and give closure to the victim’s grieving mother.
At Toronto, LevelK will also present Stephen Page’s “Spear” in Discovery and Anders Thomas Jensen’s black comedy “Chicken & Men” in the Vanguard section.
Produced by the team behind “The Turning,” “Spear” turns on a young Aboriginal mani’s spiritual journey.
“Chicken & Men” stars Mads Mikkelsen, Nicolai Lie Kaas and David Denic and centers around outcast brothers who discover a truth about themselves and their family. Pic will also compete at Austin.
The Toronto film festival will take place Sept. 10-20.
