Paris-based Norte Distribution has taken French rights to Cannes Directors’ Fortnight player “Peace to Us in Our Dreams,” helmed by vet Lithuanian auteur Sharunas Bartas.
Norte plans to release the film in French theaters by February 2016.
Sold at Cannes by Mexico and Paris’ sales house NDM, Sharunas Bartas’ eight feature is a family redemption drama, turning on a daughter that feels ignored by her father, who is tired of his daily routine, and his new wife, a violinist that does not feel any joy of life.
Set up at Vilnius-based Studija Kinema, “Peace to Us in Our Dreams” is co-produced by France’s KinoElektron and House on Fire and Russia’s Look Film.
“We are proud to release the latest film of an important and rare filmmaker, who, with a great sense of mise en scene, directed a poetic and intimate piece,” said Norte Distribution’s Valentina Novati.
Norte, a young production-distribution company, has released some 15 films in France, including Verena Paravel and Lucien Castaing-Taylor’s 2012 multi-prized documentary “Leviathan.”
Founded in 2012 by Jaime Romandia and Fiorella Moretti’s Mantarraya Producciones alongside Cannes’ twice best director winning Carlos Reygadas’ No Dream Cinema, NDM has rapidly positioned as a key player to handle international rights for Latin American and European artpics.
“Sharunas Bartas is one of the most singular film makers working today whose work we´ve admired for a long time. So we were naturally very excited to get involved in this project at an early stage. Our ambition at NDM is to represent a cinema that pushes the boundaries,”Fiorella Moretti said.
