Asif Kapadia’s ‘Amy’ To Open Italy’s Biografilm Festival Following Its Cannes World Preem

ROME – Segueing from it’s Cannes world preem, British director Asif Kapadia’s well-received Amy Winehouse docu “Amy” will open Italy’s Biografilm Festival, the unique event billed as a cinematic celebration of human lives.

Docu “Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans” and Belgian director Jaco Van Dormael’s wacky comedy “The Brand New Testament,” in which God is a mean guy in Brussels operating behind a computer screen, will also be unspooling fresh from the Croisette, while the fest’s closer will be Alex Gibney’s “Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief,” in its first European outing after bowing at Sundance.

The Bologna-based fest, headed by Italo critic and film industry entrepreneur Andrea Romeo, will also hold its second industry meet, called Bio to B, which will feature docu project presentations and pitches to Italian and international producers.

The 11th Biografilm fest will run June 5-15.
