Cannes: John Collee To Adapt Chinese Fantasy Franchise ‘The Mirror’

“Master and Commander” screenwriter John Collee will adapt “The Mirror: Twin Cities,” as the first of a series of bestselling Chinese novels that are intended to be adapted into a potential English-language movie franchise.

The contemporary fantasy books are written by Chinese novelist Cang Yue, and have sold over 7 million copies. An English-language book deal is set to be announced next week.

Development of the film is by China’s Ruyi Films and Syon Media from Montreal, Canada. Production of the film is by Liming Ke (“So Young,” “Tiny Times”), Danny Bergeron (vfx producer on “Jupiter Ascending,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past”) and Andrew Mason (“The Matrix,” “The Water Diviner”).

The six “Mirror” books span decades and oceans in Eden, a fantastical world of sorcery, tragic romance, thrilling quests and a colorful cast of characters. It combines ancient Chinese mythology and martial arts with fantasy and the supernatural.
