‘Court’ Wins India’s National Film Award

MUMBAI — Chaitanya Tamhane’s multilingual “Court” has won best feature at the Indian government’s annual National Film Awards.

The recognition is the latest in a series of accolades for the film including best film and director at the Mumbai film festival, best Asian feature at the Singapore Intl. Film Festival, the Luigi De Laurentiis Award and the Venice Horizons Award at the Venice Film festival and the Fipresci Prize at the Viennnale.

Srijit Mukherji won director and original screenplay for Bengali-language “Chotushkone,” and the film also won  cinematography for Sudeep Chatterjee.

Vijay won actor for Kannada-language “Nanu avanalla avalu,” and popular Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut actress for “Queen.”

Bobby Simhaa won supporting actor for Tamil-language “Jigarthanda” and Baljinder Kaur supporting actress for Haryanvi-language “Pagdi: The Honour.”

Aditya Vikram Sengupta won debut for “Labour of Love,” a category the film won at Venice too.
