‘Black Coal’ Chalks Up Another Win With China Directors Guild Prize Haul

Black Coal Thin Ice Film Review-Belin

Black Coal Thin Ice,” the detective mystery film by Diao Yinan, earned a trio of top prizes at the China Film Directors’ Guild Awards.

The film was named as best picture, and Diao ‘screenwriter of the year.’ Liao Fan, the film’s leading man, was named as ‘actor of the year.’

The 2014 awards were presented in Beijing on Sunday night.

Director of the year award went to Lou Ye, director of “Blind Massage.”

Gong Li was names as best actress, for her role in Zhang Yimou’s “Coming Home.” That reversed the snub she felt when not receiving the acting prize at the Golden Horse Awards in November last year.

Lu Yang claimed the ‘youth director’ prize for “Brotherhood of Blades”.

Ann Hui won a prize for best director from Hong Kong and Taiwan, while Hong Kong’s Peter Chan Ho-sun was awarded the annual special prize for his “Dearest,” a mainland-set drama about child abductions.
