SELLER: Ed Marinaro
LOCATION: Los Angeles, Calif.
SIZE: 2,111 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms
YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: A modest home on a well-traveled road just above L.A. ever-chic Sunset Strip, owned per property records by veteran actor Ed Marinaro, recently came up for sale with an asking price of $2,195,000 and was quickly put in to escrow with an unknown buyer and at unknown amount.
Your Mama understands Mister Marinaro may not be a huge, household name recognized by celebrity gossip blog reading millennials but, rest assured young children, the swarthy, former collage football star has been shaking his 6’2” New Jersey-bred moneymaker in Hollywood since the late 1970s. He portrayed beau-hunky stuntman/building manager Sonny St. Jacque on “Laverne and Shirley” before he did a six-season stint in the middle ’80s as a macho but kind cop on “Hill Street Blues.” He later turned up on “Falcon Crest” and “Sisters” as well as a long list of other programs before he did three seasons in 2010 and 2011 as a football coach on “Blue Mountain State,” a toilet-humored cable sitcom that has — probably unwisely by our meaningless opinion — been made into an as-yet unreleased feature-length film.
Property records are a bit confusing on this one. One database we searched suggests Mister Marinaro may have purchased the property as far back as 1978 for as little as $60,500 but other online resources show it might have been in early 1983 for $211,000. What we do know for sure, based on publicly available mortgage information, is that Mister Marinaro was most certainly the owner of the property by 1997.
Whatever the case, current listing details show the two-story, 1940s traditional, which we found digital evidence was set out for lease in 2013 at $10,000 per month, has three bedrooms and three bathrooms in 2,111 square feet. Dark hardwood floors run throughout the open plan main floor living spaces that include a living room with fireplace; dining area with glammy, graphically patterned wall paper and groovy chandelier; and a center island kitchen with high-grade, stainless steel appliances, a four-stool snack bar and a combination of Caesarstone and slab marble countertops.
Two guest/family bedrooms on the upper floor — one with a full wall of built-in bookshelves and storage cabinets — share a hall bathroom while the master suite has French doors to a large deck with an over the Bougainvillea view of the neighboring house’s roof and fireplace stack and a private bathroom with double vessel sinks and a glass-enclosed corner shower stall.
French doors in the kitchen area and an adjoining sun room/den open to an awning-shaded red-brick terrace, a dining terrace under an arched canopy of tangled vines and a rectangular swimming pool surrounded by a slender strip of basket weave pattern red brick terracing.
