Rosie O’Donnell Splits, Quits and Lists New Jersey Estate

SELLER: Rosie O’Donnell
LOCATION: Saddle River, N.J.
PRICE: $6.975 million
SIZE: 5,167 square feet, 6 bedrooms, 7 full and 2 half bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: It’s been a rough year for veteran showbizzer Rosie O’Donnell. The fearlessly outspoken and sometimes abrasive comedian-actress-television personality split with Michelle Rounds, her wife of less than three years, and last fall she rejoined but quickly quit the daytime chat fest “The View” in a blaze of publicity. Now comes word via the property gossips at that she’s hoisted her multi-acre estate in the affluent community of Saddle River, N.J., up for sale with an asking price of $6.975 million. Miz O’Donnell purchased the property less than two years ago, in October 2013, for $6.375 million.

The five-plus acre spread, about 30 miles north and slightly west of Midtown Manhattan, is anchored by a turreted, 5,167-square foot, slate roofed, stucco-sided, stone accented and faux-timbered residence that listing descriptions somewhat charitably describe as an “English Country Estate.” Current listing details show there are a total of six bedroom and seven full and two half bathrooms, and our thoroughly unscientific research suggests those figures parse to five bedrooms, five full and two half bathrooms — along with at least five fireplaces and an elevator — in the main house and another bedroom, two more bathrooms, a full kitchen, and laundry facilities in the self-contained guesthouse/pool house. The gated grounds, ringed and dotted with mature specimen trees, include extensive lawns, manicured gardens, a vast bluestone patio that wraps around two long sides of the house and a grotto-style swimming pool with waterfall, separate plunge/kiddie pool and spa. There’s a sizable circular motor court at the front of the residence, an even larger, blacktopped rear motor court with half-court basketball court and garage parking for three cars plus another two garage bays converted to an art studio.

The last few years have not only been a personal and professional merry-go-round for the single mother of five but Miz O’Donnell’s property portfolio of posh private homes has also been in a near constant state of flux. In June 2013 the heart attack survivor sold off her longtime waterfront compound on Miami Beach’s aptly named Star Island for $16.5 million; in December 2013 she parted with a four bedroom and three bathroom terraced duplex penthouse in New York City’s Greenwich Village for $9 million that she’d acquired not quite two years earlier for $8.095 million; And, in April she took in $5.3 million for a gulf-front spread south of Sarasota, Fla., that she’d scooped not even 18 months earlier for $5 million. Last summer, some of the children may recall, she listed four of the five homes that comprise her five residence Hudson River front compound in Nyack, N.Y., for a total of $6.15 million, but all four of the properties were taken off the open market earlier this year. In case any of y’all are curious, she bought the compound for a total of $8.605 million in five separate transactions between May 2001 and January 2008.

Can’t say one could ever expect too much of a native of Commack –– home of the Commack Motor Inn, perhaps Long Island’s cheesiest “hostelry”.

Agree Donna. Success went to her head in a most unattractive way. She’s a completely different and utterly unappealing person now.

  4. Desert Donna says:

She really gives marriage equality a bad name. She is miserable and no one will ever stay with her. She is the anti Ellen. Donna is never this harsh except for this one. Who would ever want to live next to Rosie? Everyone would want to live next to Ellen, and not just because her Real Estate is much more fabulous. Rosie, Rosie I heard your “Tommy” (Cruise) is single again. Go for it
