James Belushi Lists Los Angeles Home for Lease

OWNER: James “Jim” Belushi
LOCATION: Los Angeles, Calif.
PRICE: $16,000 per month
SIZE: (approx.) 3,500 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: A well-maintained home in L.A.’s casually ritzy Brentwood area, owned, per the Bizzy Boys at Celebrity Address Aerial, by James “Jim” Belushi, has come up for lease at $16,000 per month. Property records suggest the in-demand actor has owned the walled, gated and vine-encrusted Mediterranean villa since at least the late 1990s, and current listing details show the approximately 3,500-square-foot residence was originally built in 1928 and done over at some point by vaunted interior designer Michael Smith, the decorating dervish who redid the Oval Office for President Obama a few years ago.

A tree-shaded entry courtyard leads to an antique wood and iron filigreed front door that opens to a small but proper entrance hall. A tastefully furnished “formal” living room is lit by a pair of fancy-pants Fortuny chandeliers, warmed by a carved stone mantelpiece and open to the rear garden through French doors. Medium brown wood floors extend in to the oversized dining room and on through to the adjoining eat-in kitchen fitted and finished with margarine-colored, Shaker-style cabinetry, high-grade appliances, stone countertops, a pressed tin ceiling and a built-in banquette lounge. A wee center work island with wood countertop and two-seat snack bar is overhung, this property gossip can’t help but note, by a pot-laden rack that threatens to drop a dusty sauce pan on the head of a vegetable chopper or snack counter sitter. A separate den/family room with wall-mounted flatscreen TV has more French doors that open to the gardens.

Upstairs there are four large bedrooms that include a master retreat with roomy closets and a white-tiled bathroom separated from the bedroom by a flimsy curtain rather than an actual door that might provide real privacy. A secluded balcony off the master bedroom provides a convenient private staircase to the backyard. Beyond the lagoon-style swimming pool and spa, which are surrounded by stone terraces and lush, flowering gardens, there’s a detached two-car garage.

This isn’t the first time Mister Belushi has had his house out for rent. We found plenty of digital evidence that the writer, sitcom star and silver screen actor — he was nominated for an Emmy back in 1984 for his writing work on “Saturday Night Live” — rented the residence in 2009 at a rate of $11,500 per month and that he later made it available on the open market at an asking price of $12,500 per month.

Mister Belushi continues to own a secluded, ocean front property on the Wequobsque Cliffs near Chilmark on Massachusetts’s Martha’s Vineyard that was bought in late 1996 for $1.5 million and was previously owned by his late and lauded older brother, John Belushi.

It looks haunted. Better call Ghost Busters.

The furniture looks really old like my great, great grand mother’s. I don’t see a TV in any of the photos so the house must have been built before Television & electricity were invented.

Better call the Property Brothers to come & give it a make-over.

It looks like it was built with wood left over from Noah’s Ark.

The house is really old looking. The roof probably leaks & the floor probably creeks. In the first photo you can see a long crack in the wall that was poorly repaired. The house will probably collapse when your sleeping.
