Dame Joan Collins Asks $5 Million for West Hollywood Condo

SELLERS: Joan Collins and Percy Gibson
LOCATION: West Hollywood, CA
PRICE: $4,995,000
SIZE: 2,117 square feet, 2 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: It was a nice lady from Trulia who first let Your Mama know that British Tinseltown treasure Joan Collins somewhat unexpectedly put her high-floor condo at the celeb-stacked Sierra Towers complex on the border between West Hollywood and Beverly Hills up for sale with an asking price of $4.995 million. The always assiduously and glamorously turned out Dame Collins, whose showbiz career spans seven decades and who solidified her place in the pop culture lexicon in the 1980s as the deliciously imperious, remorselessly fur-draped and liberally jewel laden doyenne Alexis Carrington Colby on the legendary and legendarily melodramatic primetime soap story “Dynasty,” purchased the two bedroom and 2.5 bathroom corner spread in 2007 for $2.7 million, according to property records. Current listing details show the 2,117-square-foot condo has at least three different flooring materials not counting the tile on the lattice-panel accented terrace and carries monthly fees of $2,475. Two hopefully Rolls Royce-sized parking spots in the valet-serviced on-site garage and one storage unit of unspecified size are deeded to the condo.

In a more than slightly campy nod to unapologetically decadent 1980s decorative realness, Dame Collins’ condo has bank-worthy green marble tile flooring in the combination living and dining room. Full-height windows wrap two sides of the room and provide panoramic views of the multi-million dollar homes that cling to the steep slopes above the Sunset Strip. The green marble switches to lightly striated white and grey marble tiles with black marble insets in the zig-zagged kitchen that’s done up with celadon-hued bamboo pattern wallpaper and hum-drum black granite counter tops on probably inordinately expensive but — let’s be honest, butter beans — perfectly routine, white raised-panel cabinetry.

It’s all but impossible for Your Mama to imagine Dame Collins would deign to host overnight guests in her home — Isn’t that what hotels are for, children? — and, as absolutely no proof of such presumptuous nonsense at all, it appears the second bedroom has been converted to a library/den with two entire walls of floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and built-ins and a third wall. The furnishings in the library/den are eclectic, to be sure, and include a black and white tiger print chaise lounge faced off over a four-tier brass and black glass coffee table with a sofa covered in an ever so slightly chatoyant fabric of crimson bamboo fronds on a champagne-toned background.

Naturally, the blue-hued and wood-floored master bedroom has not just one but two walk-in closets for all the red carpet veteran’s bespangled designer gowns and animal print luncheon dresses plus additional built-in wardrobes in the bedroom — perhaps to house her extensive wig collection. The bed, dressed with a quilted satin coverlet, is set regally — or “regally” depending on one’s point of view — on a platform two steps up from the sitting area and the attached bathroom is decidedly Old School grande dame with mirrored walls and white marble floors.

Miz Collins leaves behind a slew of full- and part-time celebrity residents at Sierra Towers who include Diahann Carroll, Courtney Cox, Sandra Bullock, and Mary Hart and Burt Sugarman. It was only a bit more than a year ago that Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne made a $4 million off-market purchased of a lower-floor unit but the perennially peripatetic pair may not remain in residence for too much longer as they’re in the process of buying producer Alan Ladd, Jr.’s English Country style mansion in Beverly Hills for close to it’s nearly $10 million asking price.

Miz Collins and her much younger fifth husband, theater director Percy Gibson, will be far from homeless once they sell their Sierra Towers aerie. The Dame still owns a three bedroom and three bathroom combination spread in a Midtown Manhattan post-war co-operative that she put up for sale several years ago — Listing details described it as ”Gracious, spacious and flirtatious!” — and she and Mister Percy additionally retain a flat in the hoity-toity Belgravia area of London as well as a secluded villa in the mountains of La Croix-Valmer near yacht-choked St. Tropez in the South of France.

  1. Viva! says:

I wonder why Dame Joan is selling this place, it’s VERY her…She seemed to be in Los Angeles at least 3-4 months a year and her sister lives full time in LA. Leaving LA? Selling up when the market is good? She did sue Sierra Towers in 2012 when her daughter was injured at the building, maybe some bad blood lingered?

  2. No actresses today as beautiful as her.

Hollywood royalty, talent, and beauty. Ms. Collins’ performance of bad to the bone Queen Nellifer is only surpassed by her portrayal of kind from the kishkes Queen Esther. All of my sheitls have been personally designed by Joan Collins or Eva Gabor, two of Hollywood’s brightest stars, who both transitioned with success from large to small screen triumphs!

    A narcissist’s dream — I think I counted only three surfaces that don’t cast a reflection…

    • Rabbi Hedda LaCasa says:

Joan Collins is an enormously talented A-list actress, starring in over four dozen mostly family-friendly films. Of course her biblically-accurate movies are my personal favorites, including Esther and the King, Land of the Pharaohs, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, in which Ms. Collins flawlessly brings to life Potiphar’s wife, as far more villainous than Alexis Carrington.
