Benji Madden Lists Bachelor Pad in Hollywood Hills (EXCLUSIVE)

SELLER: Benji Madden
LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA
PRICE: $1,495,000
SIZE: 2,183 square feet, 2-3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Now married to movie star Cameron Diaz and shacked up behind the fortified gates of her $9.5 million celeb-pedigreed compound in Beverly Hills, intensely tatted pop-punk musician Benji Madden has popped his bachelor pad in the Nichols Canyon area of the Hollywood Hills up for sale at $1.495 million. Property records show the former Good Charlotte guitarist, now half of The Madden Brothers band and a coach on the most recent season of the Australian version of “The Voice,” purchased the single-story 1950s ranch-style house in early 2013 for $1.125 million and current listing details show the 2,183-square-footer has three bedrooms and three bathrooms.

Behind gates on a tree-shaded plateau above the street, the exterior remains much the same as when Mister Madden acquired the property with milk chocolate board and batten cladding set off with bravely kooky bright orange window frames and doorways that this property gossip rather appreciates. He did, however, make a number of important cosmetic improvements on the interiors, i.e. installed all new oak floorboards, added can lights in the flat ceilings, removed a bunch of wallpaper, and slapped a fresh coat of paint on everything. More importantly, the plumbing was replaced, new bathrooms were installed with slab marble counter tops and snazzy brass fixtures, and, after knocking down a couple of walls, the outdated kitchen replaced with an entirely new one. Now fitted with custom finished cabinetry and solid surface counter tops, the new kitchen is completely open on one side over a snack bar peninsula to a combination living/dining room with fireplace and on the other side over a second peninsula counter top to a secondary dining area with massive picture windows that overlook the main entertainment terrace. A separate, spacious and sky-lit den has a knotty pine paneled vaulted ceiling, built-in storage cabinets, and a chunky, cottage-like river rock fireplace. Nestled into a steep and wooded canyon slope held back by retaining walls, there are several red brick terraces, gravel patios and small decks that surround the house and overlook a babbling brook. (The house was photographed in early 2014 for the website MyDomaine.com.)

Mister Madden’s wife was catnip for property gossips last week after she put her high-glam, Kelly Wearstler-designed pied-a-terre in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village up for sale at $4.25 million. Miz Diaz owns a second, much larger apartment in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood that was acquired for $9.52 million in late 2013, shortly before she hooked up with Madden, and back in Los Angeles, as mentioned before, the statuesque, top-earning star owns a two-residence compound in a celeb-saturated enclave in the Beverly Hills Post Office area that she scooped up in 2010 for $9.447 million from Candice Bergen. Some of their neighbors include Jennifer Lawrence, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, and Mister Madden’s twin bother Joel and his wife, Nicole Richie, who live just down the street in a smaller spread they picked up early this year in an off-market deal for $6.7 million.
