NBCUniversal Digital Enterprises has finalized the launch date and schedule for Seeso, its much-buzzed about ad-free subscription comedy channel.

The channel will launch Jan. 7 with the previously announced shows “The UCB Show,” “Dave and Ethan: Lovemakers,” “Sammy J & Randy in Ricketts Lane,” “Before the Morning After” and “The Cyanide & Happiness Show” as well as comedy specials from Rory Scovel and Matt Besser. The first episodes of the new series are free, with new episodes being made available to subscribers each week starting Jan. 13.

Other series and specials, such as Dan Harmon’s fantasy role-playing series “HarmonQuest” and Cameron Esposito and Rhea Butcher’s stand-up series “Take My Wife,” will be rolled out throughout the coming year.

Seeso’s library also includes high-def remastered versions of “Kids in the Hall” and “Monty Python’s Flying Circus.”

“We think the world needs more laughter, so we put together what we think is the best collection of comedy in one place. Come, seeso for yourself,” said Evan Shapiro, exec v.p. of NBCUniversal Digital Enterprises.

Another streaming outlet? How many of these can survive? Makes more sense to me for NBC to funnel these new original streaming-only shows into Hulu, which it partially owns. Or maybe make Seeso an add-on subscription to Hulu (and possibly Amazon Prime) for an extra $2 or 3 a month. But I don’t really see this surviving as its own standalone app/service at the announced cost of $4 a month.
