The host of Fox’s “American Idol,” which launches its final season on Jan. 6, will also be presented with the award by Bob Pittman, chairman and CEO of iHeartMedia, at the event, to be held at Las Vegas Convention Center.
iHeartMedia recently renewed a multi-year pact with Seacrest, a who hosts several radio programs for the company in addition to serving as an advisor to its management team. In addition, Seacrest is a prolific investor in new media ventures including Pinterest and DigiTour Media.
Seacrest and Pittman will be featured in a keynote conversation at Variety Entertainment Summit with Andrew Wallenstein, co-editor-in-chief, Variety.
“While most know Ryan Seacrest as an on-air personality, he has also distinguished himself as a successful entrepreneur with a keen eye for cutting-edge technologies,” said Wallenstein. “That makes him truly deserving of this award, and who better to present it to him than Bob Pittman, an industry pioneer with whom he collaborates in innovative fashion as well.”
Pittman leads iHeartMedia, Inc., whose iHeartMedia radio holdings have the largest reach of any broadcaster in America and is also a major digital and social platform. Pittman is also the co-founder and programmer who led the team that created MTV. He has been CEO of MTV Networks, AOL Networks, Six Flags Theme Parks, Quantum Media, Century 21 Real Estate, and Time Warner Enterprises.
Variety’s Digital Impact Leadership Award recognizes pioneering and innovative work in digital media and entertainment. The award leads Variety’s 2016 Digital Impact List, featuring top executives who are poised to transform the entertainment business next year at many of the biggest tech outfits including Google, Facebook and Snapchat.
Seacrest continues to maintain a busy career across radio, TV and digital media, working as a host for such programs as “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” and “Dick Clark’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest. “His company, Ryan Seacrest Prods., produces such shows as “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” and its spin-offs, and the upcoming NBC drama “Shades of Blue” with Jennifer Lopez.
In 2013, Seacrest shared the cover of Variety’s weekly magazine with Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom for a special issue about the connection between Hollywood and Silicon Valley.
