NextVR Gets $30.5 Million Funding from Comcast, Time Warner and Others

Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus

Virtual reality (VR) live streaming startup NextVR has raised a $30.5 million round of funding. The round was led by Formation 8, with investors including MSG, Dick Clark Productions, Comcast Ventures, Time Warner Investments and others. The funding, which was first reported by the Wall Street Journal, comes after the startup raised $5 million a little over a year ago.

NextVR has been doing a number of VR live streams of big marquee events, including a live stream of the Democratic Presidential Debate and a live stream of the NBA’s season opening game.

This isn’t the first time VR is getting love from big media companies: In September, Disney participated in a $65 million round of funding for Jaunt VR. And in July, AltspaceVR raised $10 million from Comcast Ventures and others.
