Disney’s Marvel Entertainment, in another digital extension to a popular franchise, is launching “Marvel Avengers Academy,” a free mobile game in which users help teenage versions of Captain America, Black Widow, Iron Man and Hawkeye navigate the trials of superhero school.

Marvel Avengers Academy,” developed by game studio TinyCo in partnership with Marvel, is slated to be released in the first quarter of 2016 as a free-to-download game with in-app purchases for Apple iOS and Android devices. In the simulation game, players to build their dream superhero school and guide the characters as complex young adults grappling with newly emerging powers and social lives.

The teen Avengers will experience multifarious aspects of campus drama — going on dates, confronting rival cliques and navigating the social ups and downs of their character’s lives.

“Whether it’s visiting Stark Tower or going on a date with Loki, players will soon be debating what’s the coolest experience of ‘Marvel Avengers Academy,’ but for this lifelong fan, it’s seeing world-famous superheroes like Captain America, Black Widow and Iron Man reimagined into charmingly fresh but instantly recognizable young-adult forms,” said Bill Rosemann, Marvel Games creative director.

Each iconic character can be suited with unique abilities and exclusive outfits. “Marvel Avengers Academy” players can also build and upgrade their campuses’ training facilities, dorms, labs, classrooms, sports stadiums and more.

Under the direction of Rosemann, a 20-year veteran of the superhero biz, TinyCo has also enlisted comic book and animation writer Allen Warner and artist David Nakayama, who’s produced numerous comic-book covers for Marvel.

Other titles developed by TinyCo, founded in 2009, include “Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff” and “Tiny Monsters.” The San Francisco company’s investors include Andreessen Horowitz, Pinnacle Ventures and angel investors including Ron Conway and Keith Rabois.
