Yahoo CIO Mike Kail Exits Company After Netflix Lawsuit

Mike Kail, whom Yahoo hired last summer as chief information officer, has left the Internet-media company in the wake of a lawsuit filed by Netflix — his previous employer — that accused the exec of taking kickbacks from tech vendors.

Kail “has chosen to leave the company,” a Yahoo rep said. Neither Kail nor his attorneys could be reached for comment; in court filings, Kail’s lawyers have denied the allegations by Netflix.

Netflix last fall sued Kail, who had been head of information-technology operations at the video-streaming company, alleging he received payments and other benefits including stock from several IT companies that worked with Netflix.

As Yahoo’s CIO and SVP of infrastructure, Kail had reported to CEO Marissa Mayer.

Prior to joining Netflix in 2011, Kail was VP of IT operations at social-analytics firm Attensity, responsible for the Americas data center operations team. He also has worked in IT management positions at Internet-device maker Chumby as well as Networkcar.com and Nexprise.com.

Kail’s exit from Yahoo was previously reported by the Wall Street Journal.
