Dan Silver, an Emmy-winning producer who spent eight years at ESPN Films, is joining ABC News as executive producer of digital.

At the sport cabler’s documentary and film unit, Silver “has worked on nearly every content format conceivable — short-form, long-form, digital, broadcast and film,” ABC News president James Goldston wrote in a memo to staff Thursday announcing the hire.

For ESPN’s “30 for 30” series, Silver oversaw the development and production of documentaries including “The Two Escobars,” “Winning Time: Reggie Miller vs. The New York Knicks,” “Once Brothers,” “Silly Little Game” and “The Hawaiian.” In addition, he worked with ESPN’s digital teams and managed the development and production of various original digital series, including “30 for 30 Shorts,” the “Nine for IX Shorts,” and’s two original short form documentary series, “Signals” and “The Collectors.”

“As we expand ABC News Digital content… across desktop, social, mobile and connected devices, I’m confident Dan will be a terrific addition to our talented digital team and help us advance new forms of storytelling and connect with even greater audiences,” Goldston wrote.
