Australian trade association Screen Producers Australia has opened a Los Angeles office.
The outpost will be headed by Simonne Overend, a producer with Essential Media who is also president of the Australians in Film organization.
“This new U.S.-based representation for Screen Producers Australia reflects the growing focus of our members on the opportunities afforded by international markets to build co-productions and co-ventures,” the SPA’s CEO Matthew Deaner said. “There is no longer a one-way pipeline from the U.S. More than ever, Australian production businesses are engaged successfully with the U.S. and cracking the international TV market.”
A delegation of some 20 Australian producers attended last weekend’s Produced By conference in Los Angeles organized by the Producers Guild of America. Australian production companies with North American offices include Essential Media, Matchbox Pictures, Electric Pictures and Hoodlum.
With Alison Owen and Natascha McElhone, Overend is currently developing a contemporary miniseries based on the classic Louisa May Alcott novel “Little Women.”
