Julianne Moore has founded an Everytown for Gun Safety committee of Hollywood figures that will push for measures to prevent gun violence, calling the project the Everytown Creative Council.

“As American citizens, we are shocked and saddened by the loss of life, and the daily increase of gun violence in our beautiful country,” Moore said in a statement. “We do not believe that the Second Amendment and gun safety are mutually exclusive ideas, and as a creative community, we will do everything we can to support the safety of our fellow Americans, and galvanize more to join us in this movement.”

The Everytown Creative Council will “use its collective reach and cultural influence to support common-sense solutions proven to save lives from the gun violence that claims 88 American lives every day and injures hundreds more,” the organization said in a statement.

The Creative Council also includes J.J. Abrams, Jessica Chastain, Lee Daniels, Ron Howard, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael J. Fox, Seth MacFarlane, Reese Witherspoon and Jeff Bridges, among others.

  1. Thank you Julianne Moore for the support of those who get face time and can use their faces, names and voices for those killed or injured in mass shootings. Posting the names of the Senators who voted against bills to regulate guns is what we need to do so we can be aware of their stand on this very horrible legistative government choice. If we reelect these Congressional leaders, at least their will be a reasonable answer to why the NRA keeps winning.

  2. Julianne stated, “As American citizens, we are shocked and saddened by the loss of life…” Hmmmm what about the hundreds of thousands of lives that are lost each year through abortion? Are you saddened by THOSE losses? Are you shocked by THOSE losses?

  3. Shalnotbeinfringed says:

Juliana would find it easier to get an academy award for her performance in Boogie Nights than stop gun violence with a bunch of egotistical actors. Who cares what these people think? Keep your opinions in constitution hating California where you feel safe.

  4. John says:

Gun safety is good. I was taught gun safety from the time I was a small child. We had many guns on the farm available at a moment’s notice and nobody was ever shot by any one of them.

  5. Woodpiggie says:

Gun safety and the 2nd Amendment are not mutually exclusive, but holocausts and well armed potential targets of genocide are. This is such an obvious historical truth that only Hollywood’s superficial echo chambers don’t get it. Your version of safety all too often paves the way to the mass graves and ashes that you and your “creative community lament in public, and then profit from in productions. If you have no sense of shame, be informed that you are understood.

  6. Pat Patriot says:

Well Hollywood’s Elite have spoken again. While living inside Gated communities and lot of ARMED body guards…Hypocrites. But what’s amazing is that these people are actually ignorant enough to believe there being part of anti-gun movement actually HURTS their careers.
The lead Hypocrite is Sly Stallone ! He’s as anti-gun as they come, yet he makes his millions with some of the most violent gun filled productions to come out of the studios! He insults the intelligence of the average viewer but it’s starting to backfire on him since he openly came clean that he is 100% against anyone other than police owning guns. It’s beginning to turn against him. Many people including gun owners have decided to boycott his “Expendables” series of movies. It seems rather Odd that Ole RAMBO is really a big wussbag.. What a total joke.

  7. dstudie says:

Nothing in Hollyweird will ever change. Moore is just another in a long line of useless individuals of mediocre to no talent to try and keep themselves relevant by jumping on the latest fad. And the latest anti-American fad is to blame an inanimate object rather than the person using it. Liberals are insane. Moore is insane and might I add a piss poor actress as well.

  8. asokasus says:

Hey, I have an idea! Juliana & Co., firstly ya’ll all need to sign a pledge to never appear in a violent movie or a movie with a gun in it. Secondly, ya’ll need o sign a pledge to never utilize a private security guard or service that totes firearms, including studio and film set security.

Absent that, then you’re little group is nothing more than a bunch of ordinary, garden-variety hypocrites: you know, do as I say, not as I do.

  9. USNavyChiefRet says:

Julianne Moore needs to do her homework before making comments like she has. Take a look at the Pew Research findings as well as the Justice Dept. figures for violent crime in America since 1992 before you make elitist comments. Since concealed carry was passed in virtually all states bar a few violent crime is down 40%+. I wonder how Moore would feel if she was faced with a violent criminal bracing her and forcing his intentions on her? What’s she going to do? Throw her Gucci purse? I reiterate what a young woman said about a year ago concerning “Bloomberg” & his anti-gun campaign “You go not have the right to tell me how I will defend myself or my family”. We certainly don’t condone what happened in Oregon, however, the former president of that university chose not to provide security for his campus and he’s a former police officer. Shame on him for creating a “gun free” zone which really amounts to a “free fire zone” for criminals like the one there.

  10. Arturo Baca says:

Does this mean that every one of these members of the “Creative Council” will forever swear off making movies that glorify gun violence (Hannibal, A Million Ways to Die in the West, True Grit, etc.)? Walk the walk ladies and gentlemen and stop being hypocritical Hollywood elitists!

  11. Mike says:

It’s always entertaining when most actors or actresses decide their going to have a cause usually about things they are ignorant about. People will always kill people. Whether it’s by knife, bat, stick, bottle, gun etc. Maybe we should ban vehicles also. More than 180 die everyday in car crashes. Lets ban swimming pools also because of drowning. What we don’t like is ignorant people trying to mess with our CONSTITUTION RIGHTS. THERE are no exceptions to those rights.

    • Bry says:

Before you post a comment about how ignorant these actors are, why not take the time to first learn the difference between “their” and “they’re”. It also wouldn’t hurt to brush up on the use of adjectives like “CONSTITUTIONAL” versus your ham-fisted attempt at mashing two nouns together to get your point across. Sure, everyone gets what you mean, but it hardly serves your cause. But then again, maybe the point you’re trying to make is that guns are about action, not words. So when somebody writes they “do not believe that the Second Amendment and gun safety are mutually exclusive” you skim over that, along with most of the rest of the article, see the picture of the actor Julianne Moore (who clearly isn’t toting any guns) and have the knee-jerk reaction to defend your precious little .22 (or whatever other crappy little firearm you carry) from all these dangerous words spewing out of Hollywood. Apparently for you, gun ownership and the ability to read are mutually exclusive.

      • TKpeterGunn says:

If you believe that what Bloomberg and his Beverly Hills brigade are pedaling is “gun safety” you are too gullible to be out of the institution without a staff escort. Here is a group of America’s wealthiest elite, people who live in exclusive gated communities with highly responsive polive departments and can afford armed security, and we are supposed to take their opinion seriously? Background checks and gun free zones are not “gun safety” and not one of the measures proposed will stop a single mass murderer or “domestic abuser” from killing ANYONE. Gun control in its modern for has been with use for 46 years and has yet to save a single life. Not one. What Bloomberg and his ilk REALLY want is the great unwashed to be under control so that if our society colapses they will be safe behind their gates and walls. If Bloomberg thinka that a disarmed county is so much safer, why did he get special permission for his guards to carry gus in Bermuda? That is a country so gun free the police don’t have them but when Bloomberg comes to town his is the only non government armed force to invade the island. So are gun safety and the second amendment “mutually exclusive ” they are when “gun safety” is gun control wearing a costume.

  12. Alex says:

Will they blame crazy people and the medication they’re on? HA! They’ll blame the NRA and people who are backing Trump.

    • It's a shame these "experts" says:

This is the goal of The Everytown Creative Council from their website:

“We believe there are many common sense steps we can – and must – take right now to help save American lives from gun violence.”

“We believe we have a responsibility to help keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people – including convicted criminals, domestic abusers, stalkers, terrorists and people with dangerous mental illness.”

      * This can be done by inforcing current laws. Better Mental Health services are sorely needed, but it is also the responsibility of those who are aware of someone unstable to inform those in authority.*

“We believe in gun safety – that we have a responsibility to store guns safely, unloaded and out of the reach of children.”

      * There are many options to having a loaded gun available to use while keeping them difficult for others to access. Of course they should be out of reach of children! Children should also be taught what to do if they find a gun: Don’t touch, leave the room or wherever found and tell an adult! Older children should be taught how to responsibly handle a firearm when they are of the age of reason.

“We believe everyone has a role to play in reducing gun violence and that every action, no matter how small, helps bring us closer to a future free from gun violence.”

      * A goal we should all want. How? See my previous comments.

“We believe the creative community has an opportunity to use our communications skills and the power of culture to galvanize many more Americans in the gun violence prevention movement.”

      * Today’s culture nutures violence of all types through video games, little to no enforcement of current laws that would help deter potential any criminal violence because of the consequences, and and the very violent movies and music that have been made over the recent years. Guns have been used in films to due away the bad guys along with celebrating using them for unlawful gains.
      * These celebrities can help by being better role models!
Realize, too, those who want to do harm by guns can and do get them lawfully or unlawfully.
Don’t advocate taking my Second Amendment Rights! They are yours, too!
