Robert “Bobby” Schwartz and Victor Jih are joining Irell & Manella as partners in the litigation practice, after long tenures at O’Melveny & Myers.
Irell & Manella said Schwartz and Jih will bolster the firm’s complex business litigation and class action defense practices and will add to its entertainment group.
Schwartz (pictured on right), who has been with O’Melveny & Myers for 30 years and chaired its media & entertainment litigation practice, said O’Melveny & Myers “is a great firm and will continue to be a great firm. I have been here 30 years, and I want to try some new things and to challenge myself.” He said his departure was not related to the departure of six partners to Latham & Watkins in November.
Schwartz’s areas also include intellectual property, corporate governance and First Amendment issues.
Jih’s areas of practice include entertainment, consumer privacy, copyright and trademark, First Amendment, unfair competition and contract and commercial disputes. His clients have included companies in a diversity of industries including studios, computer software, videogames, rental cars and retail.
Schwartz called Jih a “phenomenal lawyer and a brilliant thinker.”
Update: A spokeswoman for O’Melveny & Myers said, “We wish them the best. Our Century City-based trial lawyers will continue to handle the most cutting-edge, high-profile litigation matters, including in the entertainment industry.”
