Mike Rowe’s “Somebody’s Gotta Do It” opened to solid numbers for CNN on Wednesday, becoming the network’s top original-series premiere to date in the key news demo.
Nielsen estimates that the show, fronted by the host of former Discovery series “Dirty Jobs,” drew 507,000 adults 25-54 among its 943,000 total viewers — easily besting the previous high in the demo for a CNN Original Series premiere, set in July by “The Hunt with John Walsh” (330,000).
It’s also about 150% higher in the demo (507,000 vs. 201,000) and 77% higher in total viewers (943,000 vs. 534,000) than the net’s prior four-week average in the Wednesday 9 p.m. hour.
And competitively last night, CNN crushed MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” in the key demo (507,000 vs. 143,000) while also beating it in total viewers (943,000 vs. 757,000). Fox News led the hour as usual, with “The Kelly File” averaging 544,000 adults 25-54 and 2.77 million total viewers.
