Resurrection TV Show Finale Ratings

ABC edged out Fox for the young-adults demo lead on Sunday, as the former saw gains for the season finale of “Resurrection” and the latter delivered improved numbers for “The Simpsons,” “Family Guy” and “Cosmos.”

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, ABC opened the night a demo winner with “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (1.6/6 in 18-49, 6.2 million viewers overall) and then tied Fox’s comedies for the lead at 8 with “Once Upon a Time” (2.0/6 in 18-49, 6.7 million viewers overall); the penultimate episode of the season for “Once” was down two tenths from its national average of last week (2.2), but is projected to rise to at least a 2.1 in the nationals this week. “Resurrection” (2.0/6 in 18-49, 7.9 million viewers overall) closed its first season with a week-to-week gain of roughly 10% (projected 2.1 in the nationals), winning among the broadcasters in key demos and hitting a five-week high in men 18-49 (1.7/5). “Revenge” closed out the night for ABC (1.3/4 in 18-49, 5.0 million viewers overall), on par with last week and again the narrow timeslot winner in 18-49.

For the night, ABC won among the broadcasters in 18-49 and 25-54 (2.2/6) and was the only Big Four net to outpace its score of the comparable night a year ago.

CBS, the night’s dominant network as usual in total viewers, opened with “60 Minutes” (1.0/4 in 18-49, 10.3 million viewers overall), which was second in its hour in adults 25-54 (1.7/5) while drawing more overall viewers than any other Sunday program. The newsmag was down about 20% week to week in young adults, which may have contributed to lower scores as well at 8 p.m. for “The Amazing Race” (1.7/5 in 18-49, 8.0 million viewers overall). “The Good Wife” dipped a tenth at 9 (1.2/3 in 18-49, 9.1 million viewers overall) and “The Mentalist” (1.2/4 in 18-49, 8.5 million viewers overall) held steady at 10.

At Fox, “Bob’s Burgers” (1.1/4 in 18-49, 2.3 million viewers overall) was flat week to week, and “American Dad” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 2.6 million viewers overall) was up a tick, leading into the 550th episode of “The Simpsons” (1.9/6 in 18-49, 4.3 million viewers overall), which shot up 19% (0.3) week to week. “Family Guy” (2.2/7 in 18-49, 4.4 million viewers overall) was up a tenth from last week to move ahead of ABC’s “Once Upon a Time” and “Resurrection” to stand as Sunday’s top ad-supported series in 18-49. And at 9 o’clock, “Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey” (1.6/5 in 18-49, 4.2 million viewers overall) was up 14% (0.2) from last week to place second among the Big Four in 18-49.
