“Zombieland” and “Gangster Squad” director Ruben Fleischer has signed a two-year overall deal at Universal Television that will allow him to create and develop new drama and comedy programming for both network and cable as well as executive produce — and occasionally direct — other scripted projects.
Fleischer also announced the formation of his new production company, The District, and has brought on RipCord Productions’ David Bernad as a producing partner. Bernad will also executive produce projects under the shingle.
“Ruben is wildly creative and his work successfully spans comedy and drama,” said Universal Television exec VP Bela Bajaria. “His talent and enthusiasm will be a welcome addition to our strong team of creators at Universal Television.”
Fleischer’s TV credits include co-creating and producing MTV’s “Rob & Big.” He has also directed numerous Funny or Die videos. His upcoming film projects include directing “Spy Hunter” for producer Dan Lin and Warner Bros.; directing and producing “Zombieland 2” at Sony; and directing and producing an untitled sci-fi project at Sony.
He is represented by UTA and attorney Warren Dern of Sloan Offer Webber Dern.
