Yellow Bird Execs Launch Scandi Shingle Good Company Films

PARIS– As Scandinavia’s film and TV industry gets more competitive and continues to consolidate, four topnotch Scandi producers have joined forces to launch Copenhagen-based shingle, Good Company Films.

Led by Vibeke Windelov, Stinna Lassen, Anni Fernandez and Ole Sondberg, “Good Company Films” will deliver fiction TV and films for the Danish and international markets, developing talent and content for new distribution platforms.

The company’s first slate includes an adaptation of Lene Kaaberbol’s popular fantasy novels, a psychological thriller directed by up-and-comer Milad Alami and a political mini series based on real events.

“Scandinavian film has during the past years enjoyed a tremendous amount of success, and it is our mission to continue strengthening this position. For us this means working closely with creatives, investing in new talent and focusing on developing first class content for future distribution platforms,” said the producers in a joint statement.

Sondberg and Fernandez both head from Yellow Bird, the Swedish outfit behind “Wallander” (pictured above) and “Millennium” franchises.

Sondberg, founder of Yellow Bird, will serve as exec producer. Fernandez, former Yellow Bird CEO, will be CEO and producer for Good Company Films.

The pair will be joined by Lassen and Windelov, who worked together for three years, leading an production company whose credits include “The Team.”

Windeløv, who was recently tapped exec director of Copenhagen’s Betty Nansen Theater in Copenhagen, has produced more than 35 titles and has collaborated with Lars von Trier and Susanne Bier, among other high-profile Scandinavian helmers.

While Scandinavia’s industry used to be ruled by a handful of shingle such as Zentropa, Nimbus and Yellow Bird, it has been consolidating in recent years with the launch of companies bringing together talented and well-connected execs and creatives.

In January 2013, Thomas Vinterberg and Lone Scherfig were among the six Scandinavian directors who launched Creative Alliance to produce English-language movies, and last year at Cannes, Studiocanal bowed SAM, a TV production shingle led by writers Soren Sveistrup (“The Killing”), Adam Price (“Borgen”), and producer Meta Louise Foldager (“A Royal Affair”).

“(Sondberg) and (Fernandez) have proven that they can create successful international productions with that very distinct Scandinavian feel. Sondberg has an exceptional talent for spotting strong stories and sensing visionary ideas. He also has the perseverance to finance, execute and complete them. Fernandez is a very experienced and strategic leader with an excellent knowledge of international financing. Together, their experience and drive will without a doubt kick-start our company and productions in the best possible way.”
