As the Transformers brand comes up on its 30th anniversary, family entertainment channel the Hub Network has announced that it is currently in production on a new animated series based on the famous Hasbro action figures.
While Transformers has already made its mark on the big screen in the eponymous blockbuster film franchise, the new series will take place years after the battle between Autobots and Decepticons in “Transformers Prime” and centers on hero Bumblebee (voiced by “Boy Meets World’s” Will Friedle) as he steps up to lead a brand new team of Autobots. The program will blend 3D characters with hand-painted environments and mixes action-packed adventure with comedy.
The series, set to debut in early 2015, is being produced by Hasbro Studios and exec produced by Jeff Kline (“Transformers Prime,” “G.I. Joe Renegades”). The cast also includes “Glee” star Darren Criss, Constance Zimmer (“House of Cards”) and Ted McGinley (“Married with Children”).
Hub Network is a joint venture between Discovery Communications and Hasbro Inc. and will be celebrating the success of the Transformers franchise with other special events to be announced later this year.
